Course Description:

You worked hard and invested years to build a successful private practice. Why walk away from this investment without first testing the market?

For the owners of privately held businesses, planning for a strategic exit is often a daunting task. Questions arise such as:

  • Where do I start?
  • What is my business worth?
  • How do I find the right person(s) to take over my business?
  • How long does it take?

These are all common questions that, without knowledge of the market, how a privately held business can be transferred, and the steps needed to prepare, and take, your business to market, are often difficult to overcome.

Now is the time to learn about what it will take to prepare you to take your business to market and, in doing so, maximize your return.

This course will cover a high-level overview of the various steps you should take to prepare, both in the long-term and short term, for a profitable sale of your business, valuation techniques that can help guide your decisions moving forward, and several key structural considerations to consider when entering into a deal with a prospective buyer.

Key topics covered:

  • What does a buyer, banker, and buyer’s advisor look for when performing due diligence?
  • How much time does the selling process take including financing, due diligence, and closing?
  • What are the practical post-closing considerations for you moving forward?

Agenda:

  • What you need to know to get started
  • Prepare your business - due diligence
  • Valuing your practice
  • Creating a timeline
    • Preparation
    • Marketing
    • Negotiation & Closing
