Course Description:

As the weight of tax payer compliance continues to focus on the tax practitioner, we are more and more exposed to Title 26 preparer penalties. In this presentation, I will give you an updated overview of preparer penalties, who they apply to, and what tools and tips you need to stay in compliance. This presentation will also review the basics of due diligence standards under Circular 230. As a tax professional, we continue to hear about “due diligence” in every area of our practice. What exactly is due diligence and what is required of us under Circular 230? Are you asking your clients the right questions? What effort is required of you as a reasonable and prudent preparer to obtain the relevant and pertinent facts? I will present scenarios and provide resources you need so you can be confident that you understand your role as a tax preparer, and are meeting your due diligence requirements to protect yourself and your practice in the real world.
